Chapter 12
The Origin Prince
The null zone engulfs Adam, stripping him of his forms. He surrenders to the origin magic, transforming into a being of light and shadow with wings—his true prince form. He speaks his identity in a voice that shatters the null zone, retrieves the Heartwood Blossom, and demands to know where his father is held. The leader claims Kael has been poisoned and will die soon.
The null zone surged. Adam had no time to run, no time to call on the weave. The shimmering edge touched his outstretched hand, and everything—the sounds of battle, the moonlight, the cold air—vanished. He was alone in total darkness.
The ache in his chest flared, a warmth that had been sleeping in his marrow. Eve's words echoed: You do not use it. You become it. He could feel his wolf form slipping away, claws retracting, fur melting into skin. His wizard magic stuttered and died, the seven strands unraveling like threads cut from a loom. He was nothing. No shape. No power. Just the ache.
And then he understood. He was not losing himself. He was being reduced to what he had always been. Before the wolf. Before the wizard. Before the families. Before the angels. The ache was origin magic—Grandmother's own breath—and it had waited in his bones since the first soul was spoken into being.
