Sirijus sat by the window, watching the last sliver of sun dip below the horizon, painting the sky in hues of bruised plum and fading rose. His mind, usually a buzzing hive of equations and theories, felt heavy, a leaden weight in his chest. He’d been so excited, so invigorated by the discoveries he and Elara had been piecing together, the elegant dance of physics and life unfolding before him. But now, a cold dread had settled in.

It wasn't the science itself that scared him; it was the world’s reception of it. He remembered the hushed whispers, the raised eyebrows, the polite dismissals he’d faced before. His ideas, the ones that felt so luminous and true to him, seemed to push the boundaries of what people were comfortable with. Elara found him there, his shoulders slumped, his gaze distant. She sat beside him, her presence a gentle warmth that didn't demand words. She simply understood.
