He carried the quiet menace of a coiled viper, a stark contrast to the gentle warmth she was beginning to associate with her grandmother.

“This is Kaelen,” Queen Lyra said, her voice soft but firm, a subtle tremor betraying the weight of the introduction. “He has sworn an oath to protect our line, Elara. To protect you.”

Kaelen inclined his head, a movement so slight it was almost imperceptible. His gaze lingered on Elara for a moment longer, an assessment that felt less like a welcome and more like a challenge. He didn’t speak, and his silence was a heavy cloak in the room.
