Chapter 6
Liam's Growing Fear
Liam's nightmares intensify, becoming more tangible. He starts seeing fleeting figures in his peripheral vision. His skepticism crumbles into genuine terror, making him increasingly jumpy and withdrawn.
The woods had always been a place of comfort for Liam, a sprawling, emerald sanctuary where the air tasted clean and the rustle of leaves was a lullaby. But now, the trees seemed to lean in, their branches like skeletal fingers reaching for him, and the wind whispered not of secrets, but of threats. His sleep, once a refuge, had become a battleground. The nightmares, which had started as vague anxieties, had coalesced into something far more vivid, far more terrifying.

He could feel its breath, cold and foul, a whisper that promised an oblivion so complete it made his soul ache. He couldn’t see it, not really, but he knew it was there, a vast, implacable force intent on his capture. And in the dream, just as he felt its icy tendrils brush against his skin, he would wake up, drenched in sweat, the phantom chill clinging to him like a shroud.
Today, the lingering dread felt even more potent. He’d tried to shake it off, to play it down as just a bad case of nerves, but the unease had seeped into his waking hours. While Ethan was poring over dusty tomes in the local library, his brow furrowed in concentration, and Maya was sketching frantically in her notebook, her eyes wide with a mixture of fascination and apprehension, Liam found himself on edge. Every creak of a floorboard, every sudden gust of wind against the windowpane, made him flinch. He’d caught himself staring into empty corners, convinced he’d seen a flicker of movement, a shadow that detached itself from the wall, only to find nothing there when he focused.
