Chapter 15
The Loophole's Power
Ethan confronts the demon, using the loophole he discovered. He forces the entity to adhere to the pact's strict conditions, weakening its hold and causing it immense pain. The artifact glows erratically.
The air in the clearing crackled, not with the familiar warmth of a campfire, but with a frigid, oppressive energy that stole the breath from Ethan’s lungs. Before him, where the ancient oak had stood sentinel, a void had opened, a swirling vortex of shadow and malevolence. Within it, a form began to coalesce, a monstrous silhouette against a backdrop of infernal crimson. It was the Infernal Entity, its presence a suffocating weight that pressed down on their very souls. Liam whimpered beside him, Maya’s hand gripping his arm so tightly her knuckles were white.
Ethan’s own heart hammered against his ribs, a drumbeat of pure terror, yet beneath it, a steely resolve had taken root. He remembered the brittle parchment, the faded ink, the forgotten words of the pact. He remembered the loophole, a sliver of light in the suffocating darkness. “You cannot have them,” Ethan’s voice, though trembling, cut through the unnatural silence. “Not like this.”
The entity’s form solidified, a towering figure of obsidian scales and burning eyes. A low growl, like grinding stone, emanated from its depths. "You dare to speak to me, mortal? You who unearthed my prison? You who broke the seal?" Its voice was a rasping symphony of pain and rage, echoing with the screams of a thousand damned souls.
