The air thrummed with a palpable tension, thick and heavy like the humid summer night. Ethan stood at the edge of the clearing, his heart a frantic drum against his ribs. Behind him, the familiar, comforting glow of Maya’s flashlight cast a wavering circle on the damp earth, illuminating Liam’s pale, drawn face. They were close, so close, their fear a tangible thing that clung to them like the dew-soaked leaves.
