The air in Isabelle Dubois’s study hung thick with the scent of aged paper and dried lavender, a perfume of forgotten eras. Dust motes danced in the slivers of sunlight that pierced the heavy velvet curtains, illuminating towering shelves crammed with leather-bound tomes. Elara felt a prickle of anticipation, a familiar hum of excitement that had accompanied her on this strange, exhilarating chase. Isabelle, a woman whose grace seemed etched by time itself, gestured towards a particularly imposing section of the library, where the spines were of a darker, more uniform hue.

“You seek a recipe, child,” Isabelle’s voice was a low murmur, like the rustle of ancient parchment. “But perhaps you are looking for the wrong kind of ingredients.”

Elara’s brow furrowed. “But The Alchemist… his note mentioned a legendary recipe. Something lost.”
