He pictured Eleanor, her sharp wit and unexpected kindness, a beacon in the encroaching darkness. He saw Liam, his gruff exterior hiding a heart of unexpected loyalty, a steady presence in the choppy waters of his new reality. These were the friends he hadn’t known he was searching for, the anchors that had held him fast when the currents threatened to pull him under.
