The air in the small room was thick with the scent of old paper and lemon polish, a comforting aroma that always settled my nerves. Sunlight, fractured by the stained-glass window depicting a shepherd with outstretched arms, painted shifting mosaics across the worn wooden floor. It was here, in this quiet sanctuary, that I first truly understood the meaning of peace. Not the fleeting kind that came after a particularly good night out, or the temporary calm that followed a deep breath after a near miss, but a profound, unshakable stillness that permeated my very being.
For so long, my life had been a frantic dance, a constant scramble to outrun myself. The echoes of past mistakes, the gnawing guilt, the fear of disappointing Him yet again – they were relentless companions. But here, sitting in the presence of The Shepherd, listening to his gentle, measured words, it felt as though those shadows were finally receding, pushed back by the unwavering light of His love.
“It’s not about perfection, Elijah,” he’d said, his eyes, the color of a twilight sky, crinkling at the corners. “It’s about persistence. It’s about turning back, again and again, no matter how far you think you’ve strayed. He’s always there, waiting.”
