The wind, a mournful sigh through skeletal trees, carried the scent of rain and distant woodsmoke. It was a familiar perfume, one that had clung to me for what felt like an eternity, a constant reminder of the desolate plains that had become my unwilling domain. My domain, a mockery of a territory, a speck of dust on the grand tapestry of this world, a world teeming with life I could only observe from the periphery. I, Kaelen, the supposed harbinger of ruin, the boss monster destined for the blade of some self-righteous adventurer. My existence was a narrative already written, a tragic play with a predetermined end.

It was a resonance, a desperate chord struck in the symphony of this world. A plea. A summons. It rippled through the desolate landscape, a beacon in the encroaching darkness, carrying with it the weight of urgency, the scent of desperation. It was not meant for me. Or so I thought.
