Chapter 13

Returning

Pablo returns to his friends & suggests they should build something to keep him & his friends safe.

Pablo waited in the shadows, his heart hammering against his ribs as his parents’ footsteps faded into the distance. The forest seemed to hold its breath with him, the usual nocturnal symphony of crickets and rustling leaves momentarily silenced. Moonlight filtered through the canopy above, casting silver patterns across the forest floor that shifted and danced with each gentle breeze. He counted slowly to 150, for good measure, ensuring his parents were truly gone before he moved.

When the silence stretched long enough, Pablo stepped from his hiding spot and made his way back toward the clearing where he left Old Paint and Glint. His boots crunched softly against pine needles and fallen leaves, each step carrying him deeper into the enchanted woods. "Guys," he called to his friends. "I'm back!"

The guilt of lying to his parents still gnawed at his conscience, but excitement surged stronger, warming his chest and quickening his pace. Adventure called to him like a siren song, impossible to resist.
