Chapter 5
Flour, Fire, and Feelings
A chaotic baking competition brings Amara and Chidi together. Amidst flying flour and friendly rivalry, Amara's laughter with Chidi feels undeniably real, challenging her cynicism.
The air in the community hall hummed with a nervous energy, thick with the scent of sugar, butter, and a thousand unspoken ambitions. Flour dusted the aprons of contestants like a fine layer of snow, and the clatter of whisks against bowls was a percussive soundtrack to the brewing storm of delicious chaos. Amara, her own apron dusted with a more artistic scattering of cocoa powder, surveyed the scene with a mixture of exhilaration and a familiar flutter of apprehension. He’d been a constant, quiet presence, his observant eyes catching more than just the details of her baking. He saw the flicker of doubt beneath her bubbly exterior, the way her laughter sometimes masked a deeper sigh.
"Ready, Amara?" the announcer boomed, his voice amplified by a crackling microphone.
