Chapter 6: The Honeycomb Path
Elara, Luca, and Sofia explore the tunnel beneath the hills, guided by the book's golden light. They discover a vast cavern lined with ancient honeycombs and a mural depicting the spreading of fire. A mysterious figure appears, offering a cryptic warning. The tunnel leads to a second door, which opens onto a hidden valley, but Brother Thomas finds a way through the first door, setting up a new chase.
The tunnel curved ahead, its stone walls warm to the touch. Elara held the glowing book before her, and its light danced across the rough surfaces, revealing carvings of leaves and flames. Sofia walked close behind, her hand brushing the wall as if to reassure herself it was real. Luca brought up the rear, glancing over his shoulder at the sealed door.
“It smells like honey,” Sofia whispered. “And something else… like old wood and flowers.”
Elara nodded. The scent grew stronger as they descended, and the golden light from the walls intensified, pulsing gently as if the tunnel itself was breathing. The book’s fire inside her chest burned steady and warm, and she felt it connect to the faint glows she could sense from Luca and Sofia.
