Chapter 6: The Night Launch
Mikutis and Jonas return to the workshop with moonmint and prepare the new balloon. They test the enhanced gas, but a sudden storm and a mysterious figure on the hill threaten their plans. The chapter ends with the balloon lifting off into the night, pursued by a shadow.
Mikutis and Jonas hurried back to the workshop, the basket of moonmint leaves tucked safely between them. The night air was still, but a low rumble of thunder rolled across the distant hills. Mikutis's whiskers twitched. The smell of rain was coming.
“We need to work fast,” Jonas said, pushing open the shed door. “The weather might turn.”
Inside, the workshop was cluttered with ropes, canvas, and the large wicker basket that would become the balloon’s gondola. Jonas set the basket of moonmint on the workbench and took out the torn fabric Mikutis had found. He studied it under the lantern light.
