The jackrabbits. They were the dancers, the jesters of the prairie, and watching them was like watching pure, unadulterated joy take flight. They’d appear from nowhere, two long ears twitching, a nose a-quiver, and then, with a sudden, explosive burst of energy, they’d be gone. Not running, not exactly, but leaping, bounding, arcing through the air with a grace that defied their seemingly clumsy build. They’d zig and zag, a blur of brown fur against the endless green and gold, their hind legs propelling them in improbable directions. It was a dance of pure instinct, a celebration of movement for its own sake, a wild improvisation played out under the vast, indifferent sky.

It was the magic of the unexpected, the spontaneous, the utterly delightful. They reminded me that not all expression had to be grand or profound. Sometimes, it could simply be a joyful leap, a moment of uninhibited play.

My notebook, usually filled with more serious observations, began to fill with their energy. The words themselves seemed to want to bounce, to leap off the page.
