Chapter 6: The Man Who Wasn't a Traitor
Wally reveals he planted the GPS tracker to lead the Pembertons away from the real key to Gene's location. He offers a plan to infiltrate the Pemberton Industries compound using a disgruntled cook, but their escape from the cabin goes hilariously wrong when a possum steals the car keys. After retrieving them, they drive to a diner where Wally's contact confirms the transfer is delayed. They set off for the compound, only to realize they've forgotten Truffles.
Elizabeth froze, the fire poker raised. The figure in the doorway was definitely Wally—same stained flannel, same weary eyes, same smell of stale coffee and regret.
"Drop it," he said, stepping inside. "Or you'll put a hole in my favorite shirt."
"You set us up," Beatrice said, brandishing the skillet.
