Chapter 5
Chapter 5
Elizabeth and Beatrice take the logging road toward Oakwood but encounter a fake police roadblock set up by the Community Betterment Group. They escape into the woods, lose the truck, and get separated from Truffles. After a tense search, they find Truffles but also a tracker hidden in the truck's undercarriage. Realizing they are still being watched, they decide to abandon the original plan and head for a remote cabin Wally mentioned, hoping to throw off pursuit and still reach Gene before the Pembertons.

"I'm sorry," Elizabeth said. "I didn't mean to drag you into this."
