Chapter 7
Farm Worries
Back at the farm, the farmer, Tyson, and Lucy begin to regret their harshness towards Zeus. They realize they never truly understood him and miss his presence, contemplating a search for their lost dog.
The air on the strawberry farm, usually thick with the sweet scent of ripening fruit, now hung heavy with a different kind of atmosphere – one of quiet regret. The wreckage Zeus had left in his wake, a chaotic jumble of broken pipes and scattered feathers, was slowly being tidied. Yet, with every piece of debris cleared, a new space seemed to open up in the hearts of those left behind.
The farmer, his brow furrowed with a weariness that went deeper than physical labor, ran a hand through his thinning hair. He surveyed the gaping hole in the side of his farmhouse, a stark reminder of Zeus's tumultuous departure. "What have we done?" he murmured, the words barely a whisper against the hum of the afternoon. He looked over at Tyson, who was listlessly nudging a stray piece of straw with his nose, his usual golden retriever exuberance conspicuously absent.
Tyson let out a soft whine. "I have no one to… to chase anymore," he admitted, his tail giving a half-hearted thump against the ground. "He used to steal my bowl, and Lucy’s favorite squeaky toy… and he ate your budgies, Lucy," he added, looking at his sister.
