Chapter 6
Ambition Across the Atlantic
Gerald's business ventures call him to America. He decides to take Eleanor with him, leaving a young Laura in the care of others. This transatlantic journey marks a significant turning point for their lives and Laura's upbringing.

Significant prospects.” He watched her, observing the subtle shift in her posture, the way her needle paused mid-stitch. Her silences could be as eloquent as any speech.
She looked up, her eyes, the colour of a summer sky, meeting his. “America, Gerald? That is… a considerable distance.” There was no fear in her voice, only a quiet contemplation. Eleanor, despite her outward fragility, possessed an inner strength that Gerald had come to rely upon, though he rarely acknowledged it.
