Detective Miller's Doubts
Detective Miller, weary from the unsolved cases, notices Lilly's intense focus. He shares his frustrations, unaware of the dangerous path she's treading.
The fluorescent lights of the Willow Creek police station hummed a low, tired tune, a soundtrack to Detective Miller’s perpetual state of weariness. He rubbed a hand over his face, the stubble a familiar roughness against his palm. Another dead end. Another missing person report filed away with a thick layer of dust and unanswered questions. He’d been staring at the corkboard, a chaotic tapestry of smiling faces now faded with time, for what felt like hours. Each face was a ghost, a reminder of his own perceived failures.
The bell above the door chimed, a jarring interruption to the oppressive silence. He didn't look up, expecting another officer or perhaps a lost soul seeking reassurance he couldn't offer. But the footsteps that approached his desk were lighter, more deliberate.
“Detective Miller?”
