Chapter 9
Chapter 9: The Serpent's Tail
Larry and Rojas are discovered at the observation post by the man in the suit, leading to a tense confrontation. Larry uses the hummingbird carving to create a diversion, allowing them to escape deeper into the jungle. They reach the Serpent's Tail at dawn, where Larry finds a hidden compartment in a tree containing a journal and a key, but a gunshot signals the man in the suit has caught up.

Larry's hand moved to his pocket, fingers brushing the hummingbird carving. It pulsed, warm against his chest. He had no weapon, no plan. Only the instinct to survive.
The door creaked, pushed inward a fraction of an inch. Rojas tensed, muscles coiled. Larry held his breath.
