The air in the ancient camper van, affectionately nicknamed "The Wanderer" by Sophie, had thickened with a potent blend of pine and desperation. The sputtering cough of the engine had long since faded into an ominous silence, leaving the Dubois family adrift in a sea of emerald and shadow. Arthur, his brow furrowed in concentration, wrestled with a stubborn bolt, his usual pragmatic demeanor fraying at the edges. Claire, ever the organizer, meticulously laid out their meager supplies on a worn picnic blanket, her anxiety a palpable hum beneath her forced calm. Leo, sprawled against the van’s exterior, fiddled with his phone, a futile gesture in a place where signal bars were as mythical as the treasure they now sought. Sophie, however, was a beacon of unadulterated excitement, her eyes wide as she traced the faded lines of the map spread across her lap.

"It says here," she piped up, her voice a bright chirp against the oppressive quiet, "that the 'weeping stones guard the silent song.' What do you think that means, Mama?"

Claire, who had been trying to coax a reluctant spark from their camping stove, looked up, a flicker of her own hidden enthusiasm igniting. "Weeping stones… perhaps a waterfall? Or stones that are always wet?" Her mind, usually occupied with grocery lists and school schedules, was beginning to unfurl, embracing the romanticism of it all.
