Chapter 5- A Swim
On his fourth morning at the commune, Alex joins the women for a swim at the pond. The experience deepens his integration and brings new attention from several residents. Maya makes her interest increasingly clear, and Alex discovers that the traveling news has reached nearly everyone. Chloe observes the shifting dynamics with amusement. The chapter ends with Maya inviting Alex to join her for an evening at the meadow, hinting at something more.
Day four. Alex woke before the cabin got warm. The knots were still there. The ceiling was still the ceiling. But the cabin felt different. Smaller in a good way. Like a coat that had been broken in.
He lay still. He listened. Birds. The wind chimes from the main house, faint. Someone laughing somewhere near the garden. Early morning laughter. The kind that meant someone had said something funny before coffee.
He sat up. He put on his shorts. He was getting better at it. The ritual. Shorts on. Knots checked. Door opened. Day started.
