Chapter 13 — Lines Drawn
Alex wakes after his night with Maya and seeks out Chloe to set boundaries about their relationship. Alex woke with Maya's scent still on his skin. The cabin was bright with morning. He lay still for a moment, staring at the ceiling beams, running through what he had to do today. Three conversations. Maybe more. But three that mattered.
He showered. He dressed. He ate breakfast in the communal kitchen alone, picking at eggs and toast while the commune moved around him in its usual rhythm. Ruth nodded from the stove. Patricia passed through in a swirl of yoga mats and lavender oil. The goat was back in the pen, standing on wobbly legs but standing. Small victories.
He found Chloe in the garden shed.
