The asphalt blurred beneath his worn-out soles, a relentless gray ribbon unfurling across an ever-changing landscape. Each mile marker ticked by, a testament to distance covered, yet Andrew felt no closer to any real destination. He was a ship adrift, the currents of addiction pulling him through the arteries of America, from the humid embrace of the South to the biting winds of the North, and back again. The man, who introduced himself as Silas, offered a half-smoked cigarette, the tobacco tasting bitter and stale.
