Chapter 4
Chasing the Dragon
The cycle deepens. Heroin gives way to crack cocaine, a relentless pursuit across state lines. Each city offers a new setting, but the addiction remains a constant, heavy companion.
The chill of the concrete seeped through the thin soles of his sneakers, a familiar ache that had become a constant companion. Jackson Ward, once a place of reluctant shelter, now felt like a cage. The hallways, with their flickering fluorescent lights and the faint, stale scent of despair, had offered a temporary reprieve from the biting wind and the gnawing emptiness in his stomach.
