The air in Dr. Reed’s study always felt thick with the scent of aged paper and something faintly floral, a perfume Eleanor couldn’t quite place but had come to associate with clarity. Today, however, the familiar comfort was tinged with a nervous anticipation, a hum beneath her skin that mirrored the low thrum of the city outside. She’d brought it all to Dr. Reed: the fragmented journal entries, the faded photographs, the inexplicable string of coincidences that had woven themselves into the fabric of her life, all pointing towards one name, one ghost. Julian.

Dr. Reed, perched on the edge of her armchair, her spectacles glinting in the afternoon sun, listened with an almost unnerving stillness. Her fingers, long and elegant, traced the worn edges of Eleanor’s journal. “You’ve been remarkably thorough, Eleanor. These entries… they’re more than just recollections.
