Chapter 13

The Price of Perfection

In a desperate bid to protect Mara from the Playwright's direct assault, Evan unleashes his power, rewriting a moment to save her. The cost is immediate and brutal. A vivid memory of his childhood—a day at the beach with his parents—vanishes completely. His favorite song, once a source of comfort, is now an unknown melody. The Playwright observes, its cold logic seeing this as proof of its superiority: flawed existence is inherently self-destructive.
