The words were silk, spun from a spider's dream, weaving a cage around my frayed edges. He spoke of a haven, a hearth fire against the gnawing winds of the street, a place where the ghosts of my past would finally cease their rattling. His voice, a low rumble, promised an end to the cold, a balm for the raw wounds that had festered for so long. I was a derelict vessel, adrift on a sea of despair, and he was the lighthouse, its beam piercing the suffocating dark. Or so I believed.

He called himself a savior, a shepherd to a lost lamb, but his eyes held the glint of a predator, a hunger that went beyond mere sustenance. It was a sharp, calculating gleam that I, in my desperate vulnerability, failed to recognize. I saw only the offered hand, the gentle tilt of his head, the way he listened, truly listened, to the fragmented remnants of my story. He built a shrine of empathy, and I, a fool for kindness, knelt before it.

He spoke of freedom, of a life unbound by the chains that had bound me for so long. He painted pictures of shared dawns, of whispered secrets under star-dusted skies, of a future where the scars would fade into the tapestry of a life well-lived. He was a master of illusion, a conjurer of desires I had long buried beneath layers of fear and shame. He saw the brokenness in me, the cracks in my foundation, and instead of offering to mend them, he saw an opportunity to exploit.
