The group falls into a deep cavern beneath the shattered chamber, landing in a space lit by a faint green glow. Chloe's voice guides them through a tunnel to a vast underground lake with a stone island at its center. On the island, they find Chloe transformed into a being of light, holding a new disc. She reveals that the third gate is already open, but the cost of passing through is a memory from each of them. Samira resists, and a shadowy figure emerges from the lake, demanding a different payment.
The fall was not long, but it was endless. Samira’s stomach dropped as the floor vanished beneath her feet, and then she hit something hard and wet. The impact knocked the air from her lungs. She gasped, rolling onto her side, gravel biting into her palms.
Around her, the others groaned and coughed. Amir was clutching her arm. Liam was already on his feet, wiping blood from a cut on his forehead. Marcus was feeling the walls, muttering something about acoustics. Elena helped Garcia to his feet, his hand pressed to his ribs.
They were in a wide cavern, the ceiling lost in darkness. The green light from above was gone, replaced by a dim phosphorescence that oozed from veins in the rock. The air was thick and warm, carrying the smell of stagnant water.
