The sterile scent of antiseptic did little to mask the overwhelming sweetness of baby powder and the faint, lingering hint of milk. Malik inhaled deeply, a quiet ritual that always seemed to anchor him. London. His daughter. Her name was a whispered prayer, a beacon in the encroaching darkness.
