Chapter 9: The Lost Apprentice
Anya and Kael return to Valerius's tower to search for answers in his library. They discover a hidden journal that reveals the sorcerer's tragic past and the identity of the ancient enemy—a being called the Hollow King. The tower begins to collapse as the blight reaches it, and they escape with the journal, learning that the Hollow King was once a guardian like Anya, corrupted by loneliness. They resolve to find a way to stop him before the blight consumes everything.
The tower loomed against the gray sky like a broken tooth. Anya remembered the first time she had seen it—how it had promised answers, danger, and a future she hadn't dared to imagine. Now it felt like a tombstone marking something that had died long before she arrived.
Kael's hand brushed hers. "Ready?"
"No." She forced a smile. "But I'm going anyway."
