Chapter 6: The Reckoning
Anya and Kael, accompanied by Captain Elara, confront the Sorcerer-King in the heart of the Whisperwood. Anya uses the new old magic within her, combined with Kael's sacrifice of his own memories, to defeat the Sorcerer-King and permanently break the curse. The kingdom is saved, and Anya chooses to remain with Kael, forging her own path as a protector of the land rather than returning to royal life.
The journey north took three days. Three days of cold rain and harder ground, of sleeping in shifts while Captain Elara kept watch with her hand never far from her sword. Anya's new magic hummed beneath her skin, a constant reminder that she was no longer the princess who had stumbled into the Whisperwood with nothing but a journal and a desperate hope.
Kael walked beside her, his presence a steady anchor in the storm of her thoughts. He didn't speak much, but he didn't need to. Every time she stumbled on a loose stone, his hand was there to steady her. Every time she woke from a nightmare of the Sorcerer-King's cold eyes, she found him already awake, watching her with a tenderness that made her chest ache.
On the morning of the fourth day, they reached the edge of the Northern Wastes.
