Chapter 4
The Serpent's Pass
Elara and Mateo navigate treacherous mountains. They face a perilous pass, a test of their combined skills and trust. Overcoming this obstacle reveals a crucial clue, bringing them closer to their goal.
The wind, a relentless sculptor, had carved the mountains into jagged teeth that gnawed at the bruised sky. Each gust carried the mournful cry of unseen birds and the sharp scent of pine and distant snow. Elara, her face chapped and her breath misting in the frigid air, pulled her cloak tighter. Beside her, Mateo’s weathered face was set in a grim line, his eyes scanning the treacherous path ahead. They had been climbing for days, each step a negotiation with gravity and crumbling stone. And this… this feels like its belly.” He gestured towards a narrow, winding track that clung precariously to the mountainside, disappearing into a shroud of mist. “The locals called it the Serpent’s Pass. Said only fools or the desperate dared to tread it.”
