The grand hall of the Aurum Palace thrummed with an artificial energy, a symphony of clinking crystal, hushed laughter, and the faint, intoxicating scent of synthesized orchids. I moved through the throng, a phantom in gilded silk, my face a mask of cultivated indifference. Each step was a calculated performance, each smile a carefully rehearsed lie. Elias Vance, ever the picture of Gold entitlement, was holding court near the central fountain, his voice a resonant boom that cut through the ambient chatter. He was recounting some anecdote about a particularly daring hunt on the surface, his audience rapt. I caught his eye, offered a polite, almost subservient nod, and he gave me a brief, dismissive wave in return. It was exactly as I’d planned.

My ascent had been meteoric, unnervingly so. The Sons of Anarchy had equipped me with more than just the physical alterations and the subtle neural enhancements that sharpened my mind and smoothed my social interactions. They had given me a history, a fabricated lineage that spoke of minor, but respectable, Gold families, enough to grant me entry without raising undue suspicion. My initial assignments had been mundane, tasks designed to test my obedience and my grasp of Gold etiquette. I’d overseen logistics for a minor festival, managed the allocation of resources for a new luxury resort on the terraformed surface, and even curated a collection of ancient artifacts for one of the more eccentric council members. Each task, however tedious, had served a purpose. It allowed me to observe, to learn the intricate dance of power and influence that governed this gilded cage. I cataloged grudges, noted alliances, and mapped the unspoken rules of their society.
