“Status report, Lena,” Thorne’s voice was a low growl, strained against the roar of the shuttle’s engines as it skimmed over the jagged, obsidian plains of Xylos Prime. The planet’s surface was a brutal canvas of volcanic activity and jagged canyons, a landscape that seemed to actively resist their passage.

Lena’s fingers danced across her console, her brow furrowed in concentration. “Vane’s vanguard is approximately fifty klicks behind us, Aris. Their intercept trajectory is… aggressive. They’re not interested in a polite escort.” Her voice, usually laced with scientific detachment, now held a sharp edge of concern. “The atmospheric interference is worsening. It’s playing havoc with my long-range scanners. We’re effectively flying blind on anything beyond visual range.”
