They lay nestled in her palm, their usual smooth, comforting texture now alive with a subtle warmth, a gentle thrum that seemed to resonate with the very stones beneath her feet. Mr. Kazys, his eyes twinkling behind his spectacles, stood beside her, a silent, encouraging presence. He had guided her here, through passages that twisted and turned like ancient roots, to this hidden alcove within the very walls of the old city, a place whispered about in hushed tones even by the most seasoned historians.
“It’s… it’s here,” Elara breathed, her voice barely a whisper. The beads pulsed, their faint luminescence intensifying, casting dancing shadows on the rough-hewn walls. A single, larger bead, unlike the others in its intricate carving, was nestled at the very center of the string. As Elara’s gaze fixed upon it, the symbols etched into its surface began to glow with a brighter, more defined light. They were intricate, flowing lines, forming patterns that spoke of a language beyond her understanding, yet felt strangely familiar, like a half-remembered dream.
