The letter trembled in Tee's hands, the paper thin and worn, carrying the scent of sea salt and something else—something faint and familiar, like the ghost of a memory. She read the words again, her breath catching in her throat: Mom, I remember your lullaby.
Asher pressed his small hand against her arm, his eyes—those deep, knowing eyes—fixed on her face. "Mama, why are you crying?"
Tee knelt down, pulling him close. "These are happy tears, my love. Your sister—she's coming home."
