Anya’s heart hammered against her ribs, a frantic bird trapped within a cage of bone. The air, usually thick with the comforting scent of pine and damp earth, now felt charged, electric, and laced with a fear that was entirely her own. Then, a figure emerged from the deeper shadows, a silhouette that Anya recognized with a jolt that sent tremors through her entire body. Lyra. The stranger. The one who had arrived with the wind and the scent of distant lands, the one who had turned Elara’s head with a single, knowing glance.
