Chapter 6
Chapter 6
After a terrifying late-night text, Kira endures a sleepless night. The next day at work, William sends a message saying he saw her in the breakroom. Kira calls the police again and reports the escalating harassment. On the way home, her mother takes a different route, but a new text reveals William is tracking her movements. The chapter ends with Kira questioning how much he knows.
When Kira reached the top of the stairs, the phone still glowing in her hand, she heard Carol’s voice downstairs, sharp and urgent. “Yes, I’m calling again. He sent another message. He knows she’s home. He mentioned me by name.” Kira leaned against the wall, her legs unsteady. The words on the screen seemed to pulse: Tell your mother I said goodnight.
She walked back to her room and sat on the edge of the bed, staring at the phone. A moment later, Carol appeared in the doorway, her face pale. “They’re sending someone back. An officer is on the way.”
Kira nodded, not trusting her voice. Carol crossed the room and sat beside her, wrapping an arm around her shoulders. “We’ll get through this, honey.”
