Kira arrives at Aunt Louise's house, but William texts revealing the address and later states he will come to the house at sunrise. Josh spots a figure outside. The tension escalates as Kira faces a looming confrontation.
The drive to Aunt Louise’s house took twenty minutes, though it felt longer. Kira pressed her forehead against the cool glass of the passenger window and watched shadows stretch and shrink under the streetlights. Carol glanced at her once, twice, but didn’t speak. Josh’s headlights stayed steady in the rearview mirror.
Aunt Louise lived on a quiet street lined with old oaks. Her house was a pale yellow bungalow with a porch swing and a ceramic rabbit by the door. She opened the door before Carol could knock, her face pulled into a worried smile.
“Get inside,” she said, pulling Carol into a quick hug. “I saw your messages.”
