Chapter 10
The Call
William calls Kira directly, revealing he knows Josh's name and Carol's workplace. The police take a statement but can only suggest recording future calls. Carol decides they cannot stay home and takes Kira to her sister's house, with Josh following. Kira feels William's presence even as they drive away.
Kira stared at the phone, the screen still glowing with William’s words. Josh stood by the door, his breath even. Carol’s arm remained around Kira’s shoulders.
“He saw the police come and go,” Kira said. “He’s still out there. Watching.”
Josh walked back to the couch and sat across from her. “We can’t keep reacting. We need to think ahead.”
