My mother, Nobara, stepped forward, her gaze sharp and unwavering. She held a small, intricately carved wooden doll, no bigger than my thumb. “Brute force is a blunt instrument, David. It breaks things. True sorcery,” she tapped the doll with a fingertip, and a faint shimmer of energy pulsed around it, “is about shaping. About guiding.
