Chapter 16
The Price of Power
Ubbe obtains the artifact, but its use demands a great sacrifice. He must make a difficult choice, weighing the cost of salvation.

But as his fingers brushed against the cool, smooth surface of the Sunstone, a jolt, not of electricity, but of pure, unadulterated energy, coursed through him. It was a torrent, a river of light that threatened to drown his senses. Images flashed behind his eyes: the vibrant green of his ancestral forests, now tinged with the sickly grey of the blight; the worried faces of his pack, their fur dulled, their strength waning; Maya, her human eyes filled with a fear she tried so hard to hide.
