Dawn of a New Witch
The darkness lifts, and the village rejoices. Amy, no longer ashamed, stands tall, her chihuahuas yapping proudly at her side, her unique magic proven.
The last shimmering vestiges of the Spooky Moon’s oppressive shadow peeled away like sunburnt skin, revealing a sky so brilliantly blue it hurt my eyes. It was the kind of blue that tasted like lemonade and felt like a warm hug, a stark contrast to the suffocating, ink-black gloom that had been our reality for what felt like an eternity. My village, once a place of hushed whispers and averted gazes directed at me, was now a cacophony of cheers and relieved sighs. People spilled out of their houses, blinking like newborn fawns, their faces streaked with tears of joy and the lingering grime of fear.
And there I was, standing in the middle of the village square, bathed in the glorious, life-affirming sunlight. My arms were wrapped around my two furry, yapping bundles of joy, Baby Blue Bears and Russo Baby Bears. They were practically vibrating with excitement, their tiny bodies a whirlwind of happy wiggles and delighted snorts. Baby Blue Bears, bless his tiny, overenthusiastic heart, was attempting to lick my entire face at once, his rough tongue leaving a trail of glittery, triumphant slobber. Russo Baby Bears, ever the pragmatist, was instead busy barking furiously at a startled pigeon, as if to say, “See? We saved you from the big, scary moon, now what are you going to do about this menace?”
I, Amy, the witch who made glitter spells – the witch everyone had dismissed as frivolous and frankly, a little bit ridiculous – was no longer an outcast. I was… well, I was still a little bit ridiculous, but now, it was a heroic ridiculous. The rainbow glitter spell, powered by the Lumina Petals and amplified by the sheer, unadulterated courage of my tiny companions, had been a success. A spectacular, dazzling, utterly improbable success.
