The Moon's Retreat
The Spooky Moon recoils from the unexpected, vibrant magic. Its oppressive shadow begins to recede, allowing the stars to peek through.
The Spooky Moon, usually so smug and self-satisfied, looked utterly flabbergasted. It was like watching a grumpy old man suddenly discover he was wearing mismatched socks. My rainbow glitter spell, a chaotic explosion of pure, unadulterated sparkle, had hit it square in its shadowy face. And it hurt. Or at least, it seemed to. The moon let out a sort of choked gasp, a sound like dry leaves rustling in a vacuum cleaner, and its oppressive, light-sucking shadow began to shrink.
Baby Blue Bears, perched on my shoulder like a tiny, fluffy epaulet, let out a triumphant yip. "See! I told you! Glitter power! It's the best power!"
Russo Baby Bears, who had been doing a frantic, interpretive dance of victory around my ankles, added his own high-pitched bark. "Grrr! Take that, you big, gloomy bully!"
