Moon's Shadow
The Spooky Moon reaches its zenith, casting the village into near-total darkness. Despair begins to settle, testing the villagers' hope.
The Spooky Moon, as I’d started calling it in my head (much to Russo’s snorts of agreement), was getting big. Like, really, really big. It hung in the sky like a giant, bruised peach, casting this weird, sickly yellow light that made everything look…well, spooky. And not in a fun, Halloween way. More like a “the world is ending and I forgot to do my chores” way.
The village, usually bustling with folks bartering for berries or gossiping over knitting needles, was eerily quiet. Even the normally boisterous market square felt like a forgotten toy box. Shadows stretched long and thin, like skinny ghosts doing a slow-motion conga line. A shiver, not entirely from the evening chill, snaked down my spine.
“See? I told you it was getting creepy,” I muttered, pulling my shawl tighter. Baby Blue Bears, perched on my shoulder, let out a soft, rumbling growl. Russo Baby Bears, ever the dramatic one, was already sprawled on the cobblestones, his tiny body vibrating with what I could only assume was preemptive fear.
