The Journey Homeward
Carrying the slightly bewildered 'La Reina', they begin their return. Camilo, ever the storyteller, recounts their 'triumphs' to Juliana, who patiently listens.
The air, moments before thick with the scent of lavender shampoo and the faint, unsettling aroma of eau de wet cat, now hummed with a different kind of energy. It was the triumphant, slightly self-congratulatory hum of heroes returning from a perilous, albeit brief, adventure. Clutched gingerly in my arms, nestled in the soft folds of a hastily acquired, somewhat lint-covered towel, was La Reina. Her fur, a pristine white, gleamed under the afternoon sun, a stark contrast to Negra’s perpetually dusty black coat. La Reina herself, a creature of immense, almost regal, fluff and a disdainful blink, seemed entirely unfazed by the trials we had faced. Or perhaps, more accurately, the trials I had faced, with her as my precious, albeit passive, cargo.
"You know, Juliana," I began, my voice resonating with the gravitas of a seasoned explorer recounting tales of distant lands, "that was no ordinary sortie. We braved the perilous pathways, navigated treacherous urban jungles, and faced down a winged beast of unimaginable ferocity."
Juliana, walking beside me with a sigh that was both weary and fond, adjusted the strap of her own bag. "You mean we walked to Mrs. Henderson’s grooming salon, Camilo. And the 'winged beast' was a pigeon that tried to steal your dropped mint."
