Mission Accomplished, Sort Of
Camilo, despite the anticlimactic reveal, declares the mission a resounding success. Juliana can't help but smile at his persistent, albeit misplaced, heroism.
The air, thick with the scent of jasmine and the faint, metallic tang of impending rain, hung heavy as we finally stood before the portal. Not a shimmering, otherworldly gateway, mind you, but the rather ordinary, slightly faded blue door of ‘The Pampered Paw,’ a purveyor of all things feline and impeccably groomed. Still, for a hero on a quest, even the mundane can be imbued with gravitas. I adjusted the imaginary helm upon my brow, a gesture lost, no doubt, on Negra, who was diligently sniffing a discarded crisp packet with the intensity of a seasoned alchemist.
"Juliana," I declared, my voice echoing with the gravitas of a seasoned herald addressing a king, "we have reached the precipice. The lair of the beast, or rather, the salon of the sovereign, awaits."
Juliana, ever the pragmatist, merely rolled her eyes, a smile playing on her lips. "It's a cat groomer, Camilo. And Mother said to be quick about it. She needs La Reina back for her afternoon nap."
