The fires in Thornhaven burned through the night. Aaron worked alongside the survivors, hauling water, pulling rubble, and carrying the wounded to makeshift infirmaries. His muscles ached, and the shadow inside him stirred with each cry of pain, whispering that he could end it all with a single surge of power. He pushed it down.
Lyra found him near dawn, leaning against a broken wall. Her face was smudged with soot, and her bow hung loose at her side. "You look terrible."
"Feel worse," he admitted.
